Chrome usage on iOS devices steadily increased in late September, and 3% of North American iOS Web traffic is now generated by users of the browser – Chrome’s first time crossing that mark.
In June 2013, Chitika Insights published a study examining the value of each Google result position. Analysis of the study data revealed that the first position on an average Google search engine result page (SERP) garnered about 33% of Google search traffic. However, as part of Chitika Insights’ latest study examining the advertising implications of the earlier data set, it was found that visitors who got to a site via clicking on the first position in a Google SERP exhibit dramatically low ad click-through-rates (CTR) on the subsequent website.
One week following the start of the public rollout on September 18th, adoption of iOS 7 in North America reached levels close to 52%. This bests the impressive adoption rate of iOS 6 in the same time period last year.
In late July 2013, Google unveiled its second Nexus 7 branded tablet, which was produced in conjunction with device maker Asus. With Nexus tablets having been some of the more popular Android tablet options since their release in 2012, Chitika Insights conducted a study examining the North American Web traffic distribution of Nexus 7 tablets over three months – June 2013 to August 2013. For comparison, combined Kindle Fire and Kindle Fire HD usage was mapped over the same time frame.
While new Apple desktop and laptops are not expected to be unveiled at the September 10th event, it’s worth noting the differences between the Apple mobile and desktop ecosystems in terms of version distribution. In the case of North America, Mac OS X distribution is much more widely distributed than its mobile counterpart.
While Google has long been the most-used search engine domestically, Chitika Insights’ latest study unveils that Google usage varies widely between different states within the U.S.
Since Chitika Insights' last study on the tablet market, Apple iPad users’ share of U.S. and Canadian tablet Web traffic has increased by nearly two percentage points, from 82.4% in May 2013, to 84.3% in June 2013 – now the iPad’s highest share since the beginning of 2013. This marks the second consecutive month of iPad usage share gains.
Within the desktop operating system (OS) marketplace, Windows continues to hold a substantial advantage over its competitors overall, but the growth rate of its newest OS version, Windows 8, has flattened in recent months.
